Seoul -- Hundreds of Korean civilians crowd in and around the center fields of the Independence Hall where an official from the Korean government urged the citizenry to attend. Foreign news reporters were amongst in the crowd as well as Nationalist propagandists, ready to transmit the contents of the meeting to the peninsula and to the world..
The banners are raised high, composed of flags from the Gorguyeo Dynasty, the Liberation movements, and the modern Korean government as well as the Greek flag. On the stage stood a line of officers from the newly formed National Independence & Restoration Army, many of whom were commanders in the Liberation Armies and hence, heroes to the local citizenry; a big morale boost on their appearance alone.
A national anthem was in the works of production, and a phonograph began to play the rhythem of the anthem, signalling that the speech was to commence.
He stood, his mind clouded with nervousness and fear, almost anticipating for the whole thing to turn into a debacle from the very start. When he stepped out from the doors of the Main Hall and onto the stage an eerie silence filled the air. Many of the civilians hung their heads low as a show of respect, though shame was also present. Nevertheless, the man mustered what courage, what faith he had, lifted his eyes to face the citizenry and speak out in a bold tone:
People of Korea... I speak before you today, in a time of crisis and strife. Days have passed upon our grand liberation by the efforts of the courageous soldiers of the Liberation movement, and the noble men sent by the government of Greece... And now.. Fate has hurled us into another conflict, a second chance if you will, to stand against the armies of the ambitious Japanese horde and reclaim our complete sovereignty and be free... free from oppression, and most importantly free from fear... I come in great shame for what I had done in the past... When bearing a great burden I collapsed, when faced with injustice, I merely capitulated to a foreign throne... I have regretted my actions and I will be damned by the Heavens to see them manifest again! People of Korea! Our lands are being claimed by a persistent evil! Our families consumed by their vile hatred! We were born witness to their capability in villainy and we must forge a single fist to which we shall strike down the hordes of Japanese ambitions! Already, a great coalition of nations stand to ward off the coming tides of war and I urge of the Korean people to stand and take their place to defend what is most precious to them!... I am not expected to return to lead the reincarnation of the country, but I will not sit, nor stand for that matter, idly as the war for our future is waged. But I ask not for loyalty to me, but loyalty to the Fatherland! Fellow Koreans! The drums of war beat! It is time for our brothers and comrades to answer the call of duty!
Silence befell the crowd upon the conclusion of the speech, the speaker believing that he had failed. He slowly turned just as a voice screamed from within the crowds, "Hail Emperor Gojong! Emperor of Korea!" The voice continued the repeat as more and more voices joined in the rant. The emotion was too much to bear for anyone to withstand and soon the crowds became a sea of zealous fury, raising their hands as they continued to yell the glory of the Emperor's name and the chants of national pride. The former Emperor turned to the officers and commanders of the new National Independence & Restoration Army and bowed in respect. The officers also bowed, lowering their bodies further, acknowledging the superiority of the man who had just started the movement to arms.
